Exercise before, during and after Pregnancy
We get many questions around exercise during and after pregnancy due to a lot of myths and misinformation out on the internet. The truth is that exercise is not only safe, but encouraged and recommended to keep you and your baby healthy. Now there are modifications that may occur as you get further along your pregnancy but it does not mean exercise or physical activity is a bad thing, it just needs to adapt with what your body can handle at the time. Woman who have been active leading up to their pregnancy can continue with the same activities initially before scaling back over time. It is not however the time to take on a new hobby or exercise routine that your body is not used to!
Exercise is beneficial for a large number of women’s health concerns including abdominal separation, pelvic floor dysfunction, bladder control (helpful for both stress and urge incontinence) and overall pelvic girdle pain. At Physio Fit we also offer supervised exercise group classes for those who would love that little bit of extra guidance during this period or for those who simply need a bit of confidence before returning to exercise independently. It is a great way to supplement any exercise you are doing in the gym or at a pilates studio as a physiotherapist will write an individualised program just for you. They will also be supervising throughout the entire class, allowing for questions and real time feedback on how you are feeling with certain movements whether they need to be progressed or pulled back.
