Movement is Medicine

Keeping active is also essential whilst navigating an injury. The deconditioning associated with stopping exercise completely is the potentially the largest risk factor for you when returning to exercise after your injury. It’s almost too easy to let other body areas get neglected when in pain, so let us help you navigate the issue whilst keeping you moving in a safe and beneficial way.

Love Statistics?

The Australian Department of Health specifies that you should have at least 2.5 – 5 hours of moderate physical activity per week (or up to 2.5 of vigorous activity) PLUS strengthening activity 2 days per week! 150 minutes is recommended and many Australians do not meet this. The best way to get this in is to have structured time in the week to perform your exercise.

How is this different to a normal group exercise class?

In our supervised exercise classes you are guided by and have support from a physiotherapist who holds a 4 year bachelor degree, or a 5 year masters degree, compared with a 12 week Certificate 3 in fitness for most gym classes.

Class size is a large differentiating factor, with our Physio Supervised Exercise Classes capped at 4 people, compared to many exercise classes with 30-40 people; which means a more personalised approach for you throughout the session to achieve your goals.

In addition, unlike standard gym classes where everyone does the same thing, you will complete your own personalised tailored program. This means we can focus on your goals and areas you wish to improve, with the resources available to spend plenty of time one on one with you each session.

To begin participating in these classes we require you to undertake an initial assessment. This allows us to get to know you; your previous experience(s), injury/medical history, goals and exercise preferences. We can also take this opportunity to begin teaching you any new exercises we believe will help you achieve your goal.

Reassessment is required after 8 classes; to determine whether your goal has been met, for the program to be adjusted and to ensure you’re getting the most out of your session time. This helps us all to keep accountable to ensuring that you hit the goals you set out to achieve.

Are these Classes available to NDIS participants?

All of our Physiotherapist Supervised Exercise Classes are available to patients on the NDIS. Who are Physio Supervised Exercise Classes for?

Is this claimable on private health?

Supervised exercise group classes with a Physiotherapist are claimable on your private health if you have the appropriate cover.

Who teaches the classes?

A qualified Physiotherapist who is passionate about helping people to become healthy, pain free and injury resilient will be teaching the class.

What does it involve?

Our Physio Supervised Exercise Classes are all 45 minute sessions with a maximum of 4 people per class – this ensures that you get the individualised session that you deserve.
 
Prior to joining the classes we will conduct an initial assessment/pre-screening, in which we will go over your health, fitness and injury history before creating an individualised plan for your exercise classes with us. We will work with you to select exercises based on your goals and interests. We decide together in line with your personal goals what is most appropriate for you moving forwards.
 
We will also have regular check in one on one sessions to ensure your are seeing progress and getting the most out of each session.
