Massage Therapy can play an important role in the life and well-being for all individuals, whether they are an athlete, office worker or full time mum!  Massage has a number of benefits, including physical, physiological and psychological.

Remedial Massage can help maintain the body in a better condition, helping to restore joint and muscle mobility,  prevent injuries and boost performance.

At Massage Fit, we use a variety of manual therapy techniques including deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy and general sports massage.

Benefits of Massage

Pain reduction: Tension and waste products in muscles can often cause pain. Massage helps reduce this in many ways including releasing the bodies endorphins.

Increased circulation and tissue permeability: Massage assists in moving fluids and nutrients through blood and lymph vessels allowing for better circulation and removal of waste products such as lactic acid. This encourages the muscles to take up oxygen and nutrients which help them recover quicker!

Stretching: Massage can help to stretch tissues that could not be stretched in the usual methods. Bundles of muscle fibres are stretched lengthwise as well as sideways. Massage can also stretch the sheath or fascia that surrounds the muscle, so releasing any tension or pressure build up.

Break down of scar tissue: Scar tissue is the result of previous injuries or trauma and can effect muscle, tendons and ligaments. This can lead to inflexible tissues that are prone to injury and pain.

Relaxation: Muscles can help with relaxation through heat generation, circulation and stretching. Mechanoreceptors which sense touch, pressure, tissue length and warmth are stimulated causing a reflex relaxation.

Stress and Anxiety reduction:
Through the effects mentioned above relaxation is induced and so can reduction in stress and anxiety levels.
