Benefits of Massage

Pain reduction: Tension and waste products in muscles can often cause pain. Massage helps reduce this in many ways including releasing the bodies endorphins.

Increased circulation and tissue permeability: Massage assists in moving fluids and nutrients through blood and lymph vessels allowing for better circulation and removal of waste products such as lactic acid. This encourages the muscles to take up oxygen and nutrients which help them recover quicker!

Stretching: Massage can help to stretch tissues that could not be stretched in the usual methods. Bundles of muscle fibres are stretched lengthwise as well as sideways. Remedial Massage can also stretch the sheath or fascia that surrounds the muscle, so releasing any tension or pressure build up.

Break down of scar tissue: Scar tissue is the result of previous injuries or trauma and can effect muscle, tendons and ligaments. This can lead to inflexible tissues that are prone to injury and pain.

Relaxation: Muscles can help with relaxation through heat generation, circulation and stretching. Mechanoreceptors which sense touch, pressure, tissue length and warmth are stimulated causing a reflex relaxation.

Stress and Anxiety reduction:
Through the effects mentioned above relaxation is induced and so can reduction in stress and anxiety levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage is a form of remedial massage that involves a firmer and deeper pressure to be applied through the muscles, in long gliding strokes. This pressure can be slowly increased to match each client’s needs in order to decrease pain whilst improving flexibility and function.

When should I get a deep tissue massage?

A deep tissue massage would be appropriate if you feel that you have tightness or pain in your muscles, restricted joint range of motion or if you would like to enhance your recovery.

How often should I get a deep tissue massage?

This is entirely dependent on your specific situation, your needs and your goals. Our Massage Therapists will work with you to assess your current issue and help to develop a plan in collaboration with you to achieve the goals you’ve set together.

Does deep tissue massage hurt?

Deep tissue massage can involve slight discomfort at times if you are comfortable with it, however this will be dependent on how you guide the Massage Therapist throughout the session. You are always in control and your feedback allows us to tailor the experience exactly to your liking.

How long is an average deep tissue massage session?

We offer 30 minute and 60 minute remedial massage consultations. We advise having a 60 minute initial remedial massage consult in order for us to develop a plan together moving towards your goals.

How do you know where the right spot is?

This is achieved through a combination of our palpation skills and guidance from you about how each area feels and what replicates your pain. Our experienced Massage Therapists will guide you through the process and have you feeling at ease.

How is pressure determined?

The pressure used in your deep tissue massage is determined by your guidance in combination with how the tissue feels to our experienced Massage Therapists. Communication is key throughout every consultation and we will constantly check in to see how each new technique feels to you, to ensure you have an amazing experience.

How much pain is too much?

This is completely dependent on your personal preferences and previous experiences. Some people really enjoy the feeling of a strong remedial massage whilst others find that they prefer a more relaxed and gentle approach. Both approaches will help you to achieve your goals, the most important thing is that you are comfortable throughout the massage session.

Whether your goal is to add 10kgs to your squat or to simply be able to play with your children, our physiotherapists can assist in developing an exercise program that is appropriate for your current level of health and fitness.

We are open! We have escalated our already stringent hygiene routines and are still here to support you. Whilst social distancing is important your pain and comfort is also our priority, which is why the Australia Government considers allied health an ‘essential’ service.

It is important that we help support the load of our amazing local GP’s during these testing times.
