I NEED TO SEE A PODIATRIST - WHAT DO I DO?
A lot of patients will be recommended to see a Podiatrist by their Doctor, a family member, or friend when they mention any pain or condition relating to their feet. That’s all well and good but there can be a few unknowns with what steps to take next in making a Podiatry appointment!
You will be glad to know there is a very simple process to book your first Podiatry consult at Pod Fit Podiatry. If you are not really sure where to start or this is your first time to see a Podiatrist that is completely okay and we can certainly help you out.
There can also be a few questions that pop up;
– What is a Podiatrist and what can they do to assist me?
– I know they can treat feet, but what about higher up the leg?
A Podiatrist is a University trained professional who treats all foot, ankle and leg issues. Podiatrists are experts in treating any foot, ankle and leg issues including (but not limited to) conditions listed below!
Rest assured that no referral is required from your Doctor and you are able to book straight in for your initial Podiatry appointment right now!
WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR PODIATRY CONSULT
A typical Podiatry treatment session will start with your Podiatrist taking a full history of your concern. Getting the full story is such an important part of the plan to discover how Podiatry can fix your issue! Our Podiatrist will then provide a thorough assessment (usually includes watching you walk or run, 3D foot pressure assessment, hands on assessment, a skin and nail check, and looking at your shoes). After this is completed, an explanation is provided which pieces together your story. We will explain how to get your issue better from here!
At your very first consult hands on treatment is provided to give immediate pain relief straight away! There are many hands on treatments that are used at Pod Fit Podiatry, including use of shockwave therapy, dry needling, foot and ankle mobilisation therapy, and any skin on nail care treatment. You will be provided with a written management plan at the end of your appointment which will outline your treatment plan ahead!
Advanced Podiatry Services
Common Conditions Treated
DO I NEED TO SEE A SPORTS PODIATRIST FOR A SPORTS INJURY?
Sports Podiatry is a specific podiatry service, treating injuries and conditions of the toes, feet, ankles and leg associated with sport and exercise. In the area of sports podiatry, our team are foot and leg experts – We have trained for years exclusively on the foot and lower leg in order to diagnosis accurately and treat effectively, meaning you can get back to sport and play as quickly as possible. We are proud to work alongside a number of local and state level running clubs, athletics clubs, football and soccer clubs and lawn bowls clubs, where we have built our reputation in sports podiatry across Adelaide over the years.
Often patients may question whether they need to see a Physiotherapist or Podiatrist for their sports injury. Our Podiatrists are trained in movement assessment, including biomechanical assessment of the lower limb, and will provide hands-on treatment along with a tailored rehab plan.
WILL I NEED ORTHOTICS?
A common thought about podiatry is that all we can provide is orthotics – well, it is one of the podiatry services we specialise in, however it is not everything we can do to get you pain free again! Orthotics are custom devices which provide specific support and stability when you are on your feet, whether that is at work or at sport. By encouraging pain free movement for longer periods, orthotics promote foot health and recovery. They are customised to you and your feet which makes them more effective than braces or strapping alone!
The team at Pod Fit Podiatry are known across Adelaide for their more flexible feel and slim orthotics, making them super comfortable as well as supportive. They even fit inside of football and soccer boots with ease which is ground breaking in the world of sports podiatry. Traditionally, orthotics have been known for being big and bulky, causing more pain for patients than they have resolved.
Our clinic is known for their evidence based approach to orthotics, meaning we will never use them as the sole treatment for your pain or condition. We use active rehabilitation, shockwave therapy, and a number of other treatment options alongside an orthotic device to ensure the very best in health and foot care for our patients.
Whatever your goal may be with treatment, our friendly team of Podiatrists will help you to get your issue sorted so that you can walk, run and exercise without any issues once again!
Our Podiatrists will listen to understand you and your story. We provide a full assessment, explanation of findings, and hands on treatment at your very first appointment. Hands on treatment helps to reduce pain as quickly as possible. You will receive a written treatment plan at your first appointment, including home care advice which may include strengthening or mobility exercises to assist with pain relief.
Please bring along the shoes that you most often wear including work shoes, casual shoes, and special occasion shoes. If you’ve previously had custom orthotics bring these along to your appointment for assessment also. If you’ve had any scans or investigations done before it is helpful to bring them along too. Be sure to wear loose fitting or sports clothing to allow a better assessment and access to your problem area for treatment.
No referrals are required to see a Podiatrist for private Podiatry clients, you can book an appointment straight away!
If you are attending through a workcover injury, through third party insurance claims, or through Department Of Veterans Affairs (DVA) a valid referral must be provided before your appointment.
We accept all health funds for an immediate rebate. We have HICAPS facilities at all our clinic locations so you are able to claim private health insurances on the spot for your Podiatry treatment. Please remember to bring your card with you for an immediate rebate.
