WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR CONSULT
At Physio Fit, we allocate up to 60 and 30 minutes for initial and subsequent physiotherapy sessions respectively in order for us to be able to assess all aspects of your condition with the aim to find the underlying cause; not to just treat the symptoms.
Your detailed assessment may include;
- Muscle strength, control, power and endurance tests
- Flexibility and joint range of motion measures
- Video recording and biomechanical analysis
- Functional movement assessments
- Sport-specific screenings

What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is an effective, evidence based treatment option for a variety of musculoskeletal or painful conditions. Treatments consist of manual therapies in conjunction with an appropriate rehabilitation program. Hands on manual therapies involve joint mobilisation, joint manipulation and soft tissue massage. These are used to help manage stiff joints and tight muscles in the short term, providing initial pain relief. Exercise rehabilitation programs look to improve the strength and flexibility of problem areas, providing more long-term relief and preventing injuries from reoccurring. Other treatment techniques used to facilitate recovery include dry needling, kinesiology taping (Rock Tape), sports taping, and muscle energy techniques (METs).
A combination of these treatments has been found to work effectively for clients with musculoskeletal (muscle and joint pain) and sports injuries. Reducing pain whilst restoring your body’s function and well-being allows you to get back to your very best – whether that is enjoying sport and fitness, getting back to work again or simply carrying out everyday activities without pain!

The human body is extremely resilient and effective Physiotherapy management can help you to hit your goals and reclaim your health and fitness. In fact, there is a common myth that back pain, or degeneration in your back, means that you should have back pain and this should limit what you can do in life, however we know that this simply isn’t true and that there is very little correlation between what you see on a scan and the pain you feel.

What will you need to do?
Becoming pain free both now and in the long-term does involve some work on your behalf (unfortunately!) As part of your Physiotherapy treatment we will likely focus on increasing your mobility and strength, which will rely on your compliance with a basic and short rehab program – we won’t give you a ridiculous amount of complex movements to do, we prefer short simplicity for our rehab. Sticking to the basics and doing them well has the evidence to provide superior results for you in both the short and long term.

What to bring to your appointment
Firstly and importantly, clothes that allow us access to the painful area if possible – as well as clothes that allow you to move freely so we can analyse your movement, to break down where the issue may be coming from.
If you have a referral from your GP or referring healthcare provider, please bring that along to your initial appointment.
If you have had any scans (X-Ray, Ultrasound, MRI, CT etc) please bring these to your initial appointment.

At Physio Fit Adelaide we will challenge you to think bigger, because pain and injury doesn’t have to define you! Whether your goal is to return to elite level sport, to climb Mt Lofty or to simply play with the kids pain free, we can help you to achieve these through an individualised rehabilitation program.
We are open for Physiotherapy treatments from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.
We aim to give you convenient out of hours physiotherapy appointment times to make your life as easy as possible.
Whether your goal is to add 10kgs to your squat or to simply be able to play with your children, our physiotherapists can assist in developing an exercise program that is appropriate for your current level of health and fitness.
Your Physiotherapy appointment will consist of:
Listening – We listen to understand you, what activities you enjoy, how your problem has presented and how it affects your life.
Accurate diagnosis – We may need to refer you for diagnostic imaging such as MRI, X-Ray or ultrasound.
Assessing & addressing the causative factors to your injury – We settle your pain & address the reason why it presented.
This will allow us to create a personalised management plan, in which we will encompass your goals, a clear diagnosis and a time frame to achieve these within.
We are passionate about what we do and we are here to guide you every step of the way!
Appropriate Clothing – We may be getting you to do some exercise as part of your assessment. Please, dress appropriately for this if possible.
Previous Medical Imaging Results – If you have had any imaging done for your current injury, please bring these along to your appointment. If you don’t have access to them, that’s completely fine - we will be able to access them if we need to.
Referral – A referral isn’t required to see a physiotherapist privately. However, if you are part of the Medicare EPC, DVA, Work Cover or Third Party Insurance programs, you will need to bring your referral on the day.
Private Health Insurance Card – We require you to have your Private Health Insurance card with you to claim your rebate on the spot through HICAPS.
If you are a private physiotherapy client then no referral is required and you can book in as soon as it fits into your schedule. If you have an injury which is covered by either DVA, Medicare EPC, Work Cover or Third Party Insurance programs, then you will need to bring this along; otherwise you can pay the full appointment fee and claim back later from the relevant program above.
We have HICAPS terminals at both of our clinics which allows us to process your private health insurance claim on the spot, meaning that you only have to pay the ‘gap’ remaining.
